Walking Down From Snowdon Summit
While the Routes to the Top page describes all the ascent, in descent the routes can be totally different!
All the routes converge from two points onto the summit so you’ll either need to descend down past the entrance to Hafod Eryri, or to the right of the building when facing down from the summit.
We’ll be adding the description of the walks in descent to the ascent pages for simplicity.
PYG and Miners – Be especially careful as you’ll need to spot the initial standing stone at Bwlch Glas and then the point at which the two paths split.
Llanberis – Don’t end up in Pen y Pass or Crib Goch – and don’t even think of following the railway down (unless you’re a train driver, and also, before getting pedantic, driving one of the Mountain Railway trains).
Ranger – Standing stone next to railway identifies this route.
Watkin (and Lliwedd) – There’s a standing stone at the top of Bwlch Main that marks the descent.
Rhyd Ddu – Cross Bwlch Main and at the junction keep to the narrow path on the right.
South Ridge – Keep left at Bwlch Main junction.
Crib Goch – The main problem is going against the flow of traffic! Other than that, there’s a fair bit of down scrambling, which might put some people off. We prefer scrambling up for certain!
Now – go forth and have that pint you’ve earnt!
