Moel Eilio and Snowdon Circular Walk from Waunfawr
The longest approach to the ascent of Snowdon is along the Moel Eilio ridge. While the Moel Eilio Ridge and Snowdon can be tackled from Llanberis, there’s an alternative approach from Bwlch y Groes above Waunfawr. It starts up a bit higher up, so you’ve got less ascent overall. There is an issue at the moment with the approach road deteriorating, and so you may have to start from the crossroads at Groeslon in Waun – adding a significant 6 km to the total route. This approach also makes it easier to descend perhaps the Rhyd Ddu path as it would be reasonably straightforward to get back to the start on one of the Sherpa Buses.
Start at the road head at SH551 598, the end of a lane that starts in Waunfawr.
You need to follow the track past the plantation and towards the Bwlch.
Cross the stile and then you join the route from Llanberis though you’ll need to climb back to the start.
